Top Diet Options for 2014 and {Challenge}

If you are anything like me, you might have “get healthier” on your 2014 list of new year’s resolutions.  Even if you don’t make resolutions, getting healthy is a great goal.  If you agree, I have a few good books that I’ve found and maybe one will resonate with you.  I always say the plan that works best is the one that you stick with!

Fit Moms For Life: How To Have Endless Energy To Outplay Your Kids by Dustin Maher
This book, surprisingly, is written by a 20-something young man – and I really like it!  He pairs up with other professionals, and he’s all about balance and MOVEMENT (but not killer cardio).  I like it so much, I bought into his leadership program after I was sent a book to review – it’s THAT good .  The real wake up for me was when I did some baseline exercises.  Let’s just say, I have plenty of room for improvement!  His nutrition plan is sound, following clean eating guidelines with an emphasis on healthy proteins and fats.  I love the success stories in his book and online at Fit Moms for Life.  Biggies for me:  Food is FUEL and Strength Training is Important/Lifting in Order to Tone.

Trim Healthy Mama (THM for short; also known as Totally Hot Mamas by husbands), by Serena Allison and Pearl Barrett
A girlfriend added me to this closed Facebook group and the sharing there is amazing.  A self-written how-to book with recipe suggestions inside, their book is a bit expensive and large but chock full of info.  I’ve learned so much from just following my FB feed.  Seems a bit more complicated to follow (S meals, E meals, ??) but you can’t deny the amazing results and photos people are sharing.  My IRL girlfriend is willing to walk me through her success with the program so I’m sure I will have more to share very soon.  If you want to be added the group, just leave me a comment or message me on FB and I can do that.

The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life, by Rick Warren
I’m most excited, though, about this newest entry into the lifestyle change arena, the Daniel Plan.  Everything by Pastor Rick Warren is always so well thought out and biblically-based, and this healthy approach seems to be the same.  He pairs up with some big names in fitness, including Dr Oz, Dr. Daniel Amen, and Dr. Mark Hyman.  This is a five-part approach: faith, food, fitness, focus, and friendship – a faith-based weight loss group held through small groups and via the WWW.  I think is program would be a great basis for a small group, which my husband and I keep saying we want to start hosting.  And we both desperately need to lose some weight and get healthier.

Other diet helpers that I also love:  My Fitness Pal (I’m ShawneeOregon) and Spark People (friend me at ShawneeH) are both great online FREE trackers that fit in with whatever plan you decide to follow.  Come be my friend on either site.  I haven’t been active there lately but that’s all about to change ….  And, DietBet is a way for you and friends to wager with each other about keeping up with your goalbecause, I’m sorry to say, everyone pays more attention to something in which they’ve invested money.  You have four weeks to lose 4% of your weight.  Do that, and you win a portion of the pot – at a minimum, you will get back your initial bet!  I’m tempted to start one for the new year, but I am SO Christmas-poor!!

Instead, how about we all just challenge and encourage each other?  If you’re going to be jumping on the get-healthier train and thinking about blogging about it, grab this button and leave a comment.  If anyone else is interested, I’m happy to post a weekly link-up in January where we can pop over to each others posts and shout out support and encouragement.

Oh yeah, Minted

Oregon has one of the latest dates for returning to school.  Our youngest started high school this year on the day after Labor Day and the upper classmen on the following day, so I’m a bit slow on back to school fun posts.

I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite back-to-school activities is shopping for supplies!  Mmmm, stationery stores, pens, papers, notebooks, binders and the like. Oh, and journals and planners! So why in the world had I not heard of Minted.com?

They are best known for their holiday cards but, of course, I’m in love with their journals!  Look at just a small snippet of choices I found:

Journal Assortment from Minted.com at Apronista

Squeeee!  I just love journals.  I can’t wait to spend a few hours browsing.  This sampling of designs are all from amazing indie designers.  Minted regularly holds design contests and then the entire community votes of what will sell best.  It’s kinda like an Etsy but much more.  Of course, fellow bloggers would be very interested in all their cool business card options. I might need some for the next Meet Up I attend.

Let me know if you find something there you love!
