I love seeing vintage patterns refreshed by using modern fabrics. That’s what you will find in our newest giveaway, from twin sisters in Vermont who have an Etsy shop Blue Star Vermont.

I asked Megan to share some of their story:
A bit about us:
We are twin sisters sewing away in the heart of Vermont, one in a log cabin, the other down the road, both with sewing rooms overlooking the lovely Kedron Brook. Our first sewing machine came Christmas morning when we were nine years old. We’ve been creating ever since. Along the way we raised families, and among many other things, taught handwork at our Waldorf School and began a sewing program for women in prison. There we saw the healing power of someone learning she can sew
an “outa here bag” to have when she walked out of those prison doors. Our latest love is vintage. Opening our first antique 1940′s mail order apron pattern and holding those unprinted tissue paper pieces, we were hooked. We work from our antique pattern collection to create fun, flirty and flattering aprons for all ages (even dolls) on Etsy and baby bibs too.
Hurricane Irene Relief Effort:
The floodwaters from Hurricane Irene have receded, but our Vermont landscape has been forever changed. Many people in Vermont are still reeling from the effects. Like so many we want to reach out and help. We decided one way is to donate 10% of the sale of all our apple aprons from now through Christmas to the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund.
In the middle of those roiling flood waters, Vermonters faced incredible tests of strength and spirit. The stories are boundless. As one woman tried to evacuate the rising water of the Ottaquechee River in Woodstock her car engine stalled, and the waters began to carry her car into the raging river. When the water rose up to the dashboard, her only escape was out the car window. She scrambled out of the car, looked up, and saw a high school boy at the river’s edge with a rope tied around his waist. He in turn, was tied to his father further up the river bank who also tied to his mother beyond him. The woman reached for the boy and lost her footing. As she was falling into the river, he grabbed her wrists. Together the family pulled her up to safety. If not for those hands, that raging river was ready to take her away.
We have all had moments someone reached out in some way, large or small, and carried us to safety. These experiences can change us forever. You can contribute to the Vermont relief effort by buying our apple aprons. Support in style!
Now, for the apron …
Remember the days of those wonderful swingy skirts of the 40′s and 50′s? Here is an apron which captures that skirt. All their vintage aprons are made from authentic original antique patterns. This vintage 1940′s Marian Martin mail order pattern was found while in search of an apron that is truly flattering to all sizes, shapes and curves. Enjoyed on many different body types, it always gets a big thumbs up. With that lovely swing to the skirt, a hemline that dips to a point, and topped off with a sweetheart neckline, this apron is sure to please. It has lots of extra detailing including eyelet lace edging, contrasting ties, a heart shaped pocket and wide black bias trim.
It is made from 100 % quilter’s quality cotton with a bright chartreuse apple print and two different contrasting black and white dot prints at the neck and pocket. With black 29” ties at the back and an easy on and off saddle neckstrap, it is a one size apron that fits almost everyone (size 2 to 16). It can be machine washed and machine dried.
And look how sassy you can be in your very own apple apron …. here’s my friend, Amy, rocking it at a recent quilting day!
